NOTE: Shorter barrels will be louder. For example, .308win 147gr FMJ loads from a 24″ barrel are approx 166.5 dB(A) at ‘milspec muzzle’ location, but from a shorter 16″ barrel the same loads are approximately 169.08 dB(A). (In this example that is a 34.6% increase in the average peak sound pressure level directly due to the 8″ reduction in barrel length.) The suppressed shot readings from shorter barrels will be correspondingly higher also.
